    Biographical history

Since its beginning Oliver has had annual community celebrations from the 1920s May Days to the 1999 Sunshine Festival. These family oriented events celebrate the town's history. In 1979, the Oliver International Horse Show chose as its theme, "Fairview Days". The task of selecting a Fairview Days King and Queen from among its senior citizens fell to three members from the Senior Citizen Association and two from the Oliver-Osoyoos Historical Society. With Ermie Iceton as chair, the first Fairview Days Committee consisted of Dave Whittet, Peter Peterson, Jim Whyte and Stanley Dickson. The committee arranged for the Fairview Luncheon attended by former Fairview residents, spouses and descendants, and collected biographical information from the invited guests. This information was to be the basis of a booklet on Fairview. In 1980 due to the demise of the International Horse Show, a new Fairview Days Committee was formed from interested groups and individuals in the community. The 1981 celebrations centred around Oliver's 60th birthday, "Homecoming" and Diamond Jubilee themes for Fairview Days. The Oliver Heritage Society commissioned a coin in honor of the birthday celebration. A special Diamond Jubilee issue was published by the Oliver Chronicle. In the mid 1980's the Fairview Days Committee operated under the umbrella of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
