Biographical history
Henry Harland (1821-1891) was born in the County of Durham, England, and baptised April 29, 1821. He immigrated to the U.S.A. sometime before 1845 and arrived in the Enderby area in 1869, Henry Harland pre-empted three properties in the Spallumcheen, south of Enderby: DL 94 (330 acres, granted 1885), the SW 1/4 Sec 35 Tsp 35 Osoyoos Division (160 acres, granted 1883), and DL 386 (322 acres, purchased 1892 following his death). Harland was a farmer and a partner with Alexander Leslie Fortune in Spallumcheen, B.C. when he died intestate, a bachelor. Both parents were deceased: John Harland (d. 1855) and Jane Bailey (d.1842), so a probate was deemed necessary to settle the estate.
