    Biographical history

Richard Melville (Dick) Brown (1920-1992) was the son of Ian and Anne Brown and grandson of Fairview, B.C. magistrate and government agent James Robert and Martha Elizabeth Brown. He married Winnifred Rachel Kohnke in 1941 and raised a family in Oliver. A rancher and cattleman, he was the first manager of the B.C. Livestock Producers Co-operative Association in 1958. He bought the former McCuddy ranch in 1964 using the hayfields and land as fall grazing for his cattle. His interest in real estate led him to become the head of Brown Real Estate joining up with Hirtle Agencies in 1975. As a pioneer with roots going back to Fairview he envisioned small agricultural parcels of subdivisions back on that site again "....and have it called Fairview."
