Biographical history
The Save the Beaches Association was incorporated on December 13, 1963. Its founder and president was W.W. Hastings, who was to hold this position for the duration of the organization's existence. The Association's main objective was to assist in preserving and promoting for recreational purposes the beaches of the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley, particularly those in the Boundary Bay area. This included environmental activities such as monitoring and influencing land use and zoning and combatting pollution. The record of the Association ends in 1970, though it appears the Association itself survived beyond that date. In 1975 the records resume for one year, when the Association opposed the construction of an oil refinery in Hazelmere.
